Conservators of archaeological sites open to the public must maintain a balance between the physical integrity of the ruined buildings, keeping them robust enough to withstand traffic and weather, maintaining the authenticity of the structures so that visitors see a reasonable image of the past, and minimizing absolute damage to the ruins. Architectural conservator Marc LeFrançois explains how the ruins are maintained at Gran Quivira, Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument, New Mexico.
