Conservators of archaeological sites open to the public must maintain a balance between the physical integrity of the ruined buildings, keeping them robust enough to withstand traffic and weather, maintaining the authenticity of the structures so that visitors see a reasonable image of the past, and minimizing absolute damage to the ruins.
