CNN is reporting that the preClovis site excavated by Albert Goodyear in South Carolina called Topper has finally gotten radiocarbon dates back: and they're reported to be 50,000 years old. If this is true, it is the oldest known site in the Americas by some 25,000 years. Sorry, at least at first blush, this is not terribly likely. I think we should wait until we get the scientific report before we start rewriting prehistory. The CNN story has a bunch of pictures to look at:
