In honor of the new Discovery Channel program on Rameses II, the Pharaoh mentioned in the Bible, here's a little bit of the History of Archaeology, on how there are interesting, and answerable, questions about the "truth" of the bible and other ancient texts.

(1) Spooky says:

Kris your bandwagon-esque diatribe is amusing as it is incorrect. You say that a planet-wide deluge (flood) has been disproving? Ummmm… why did you say such an asinine thing?

I assume your not familiar with anthropological anecdotal stories of global floods throughout diaspora. What are all of those ancient tribal groups and cultures in league with one another? What about enigmatic water erosion damage to the Sphinx in the DESERT? What about Dr. Ballard’s Black Sea research?

Moses’ account of the global flood even parallels the Epic of Gilgamesh which arguably was a pre-flood document despite it appearing to be post-flood due to its content. No Moses didn’t plagiarize it as it was not available to Egyptians at the time.

There is so much geological evidence of global flooding it staggers the mind why you would parrot such a specious statement. If you want to be in the in-crowd thats one thing. But if you want to be a REAL scientists you must challenge the status quo even if you become a pariah for doing so.

(2) Lee Picton says:

Spooky, you are just another delusional literalist. ALL of real scientific inquiry has utterly FAILED to provide the slightest evidence for a global flood. There never was such a thing – ever. If you believe that kind of tripe because that was what you were taught as a credulous child in church, you have been misinformed. They lied.

(3) Oh really? says:

Oh , this gets very old after a while.

There are too many presuppositions in the
evolutionary circular thought process.
Other religious groups may read their texts
to see what they say, but we check the
veracity of the holy scriptures. We want
to make sure that our faith is right.
And by the way Lee, when was the last time
you read the bible?
Instead, you stand up and close your eyes to proclaim
your ignorance and try to pass it off as wisdom.
Just be sure that we are 100% wrong before you tell us that.

(4) Susan says:

Before the name calling gets ugly, there has been evidence found of a great flood… In what we call the Old World. The known world at the time of those writings.
There has not been geological confirmation of a flood of massive proportions found anywhere that I’ve read about in the New World e.g. The Americas.
True, our Rockies are not so high, and most of the Andes are unexplored, while the North lies frozen and unreadable.
Blanket statements serve no purpose. Just let it remain a mystery.
After all, if you are a believer, you don’t need proof, and if you are not, no proof can persuade you.

Yes, I have read my bible and can see it for what is is – a prettily worded fiction. And to Oh, Really, yes, you are 100% wrong.

Great flood you say….lets see now noah and his family built a huge ship what 3 times larger then the largest aircraft carrier. What would that take a couple weeks? (LOL) then he travelled the world (the world was flat then remember) and gathered up and herded thousands of species of ALL animals, insects, etc. brought them all together and with food for all put them on his boat. Paddeled out, a big flood came and all were saved. What kind of trick would a god be performing to ask something like this to be done. This was one of the many nonsense stories catholics drilled into children growing up. There parents believed it……why? because their parents told them the same silly story and so on. Just like the santa clause story that children believe. By the time most educated children reach the age of 10, santa clause now becomes a hoax. Just like the bible. But with religious people out of fear/guilt they continue to believe. Thats sad! The bible is just a family tradition handed down, never to question. Once you learn all about jesus there is nothing else to learn. Thats sad, when you stop learning. I was raised a catholic and like MOST catholics today have put those silly catholic stories and falacies to bed. Come on educated people give your heads a shake.

God decided to send a worldwide flood. Why? to wipe out humanity and all living creatures. Thats a loving god now isn’t it? But! Noah was smarter then god. He built a boat loaded everyone on board including every animal from the four corners of the world. The big flood came, everyone was saved and lived happily ever after. Now let me tell you the story about the 3 little pigs.

Im surprised one of you very well informed god pests, haven’t said what you always say when a bible story is disproven, that its meant to be symbolic.Load of crap! You all seem to pick and choose whats real and whats not. Funny that because you always say that the Bible is an historical text! You can’t pick and choose. But you all continue to do so. Why? Anyway, the bible is a good story, just like Jurassic park is, but also its a work of intelligent fiction, blending scientific, and historical fact with total hokum!!!

The bible was written at the first council of Nicaea in 325, almost 200 year after JC died. Like any good book it was loosely based on fact, anything that made his mortal was chucked. Luckily everybody then had such good memories.

(13) Jacob says:

I can’t believe that in the 21st century people continue to believe in silliness like talking snake, talking donkey, people resurrected from the dead, and so on. A loving mighty god who created Satan, let’s Satan seduces Adam while doing nothing to stop him, and then decided to punish mankind for the mistake of one person. Why the hell should I be punish for Adam. God then decided that he must save mankind again, so to rectify, he send his son (who happens to be himself too) to die on the cross. Couldn’t find a better way. In order to be saved, humanity must obey everything in an inconsistent book with many mistakes and contradictions while engaging on collective incestuous sexual relation (since we all come from Adam and Eve).

(14) Nancy Childers says:

Atheist needs to read Lee Strobel’s book “I don’t have enough Faith to be an Atheist”. Lee was a former Atheist. But ofcourse he has to have an open mind, as so other non-believers, in order to try and undestand what is being said. I can list miracle after miracle that my God has put before me, evidence before my eyes, that can only be explained through devine intervention. I will pray for all of you. Prayer is the only hope any of you have. I had a friend ask me once what will happen if I live as a Christian all my life, and when I die, I find out “that’s it” and I was wrong. My answer: I’d rather live as a believer and find out I was wrong, than live as an Atheist and find out the Christians were right. What will I have lost if I am wrong? Nothing. What will I have lost if Christians are right? Everything. Read the book “90 Minutes in Heaven”

(15) richard says:

Today no honest, educated person can maintain that the universe came into being a few thousand years ago as many christians believe, and assumed its current form in 6 day, and the absurdity that day and night existing before the sun was created (genesis) . Adam lived to be over 900 years old (LOL) , his two sons procreating with whom to start the generations?

Yes there might have been great floods in the past but 700 year old Noah (LOL) circling the globe to every corner gathering and transporting millions of species of animals (bringing their each particular food) with them. Then after the flood returning all these animals to each exact location where they were found. Come on people. Religion is a faith based on old ancient copies of copies of copies of scripts written by a bunch of old farty men that we know nothing personally about them but believe everything they say.

If a 13 year old girl today named Mary walked down any street in america and said she was impregnated by a ghost, we would call the guys with the white coats. If there was a man christians call Jesus (there was no letter J in Hebrew times back in the day) was probably nothing more then a comparable David Copperfield today. David Copperfield can saw people in half. AKA Jesus could bring people back to life. WOW!

May 4, 2009 at 10:28 am
(16) Richard says:

NANCY: We don’t need to read anyones book. You need to use your own God given abilities and use your knowledge to subtract fact from fiction. Its obvious you adopted your faith from your parents who probably adopted it from their parents and so on, not based on any facts but back in the time based on fear that churches instilled in people that if you believe in Jesus (not his real name, no letter J in the Hebrew alphabet at that time) Heaven awaits you, if you don’t Hell awaits you. The old fear routine.

I know it’s not politically correct to say,but I find it impossible not to feel superior when I read the thoughts of reasonably sophisticated people who regurgitate the same stock phrases time after time as a defense of or evidence of their faith in an omniscient god/creator and all the attendant mumbo-jumbo that supposedly gives those beliefs some credence.
As an atheist,I am aware that my side of the argument-that there is no god,is not a provable statement-one cannot prove a negative. So, I give all the believers out there the easy and provable task.Show one iota of proof.Produce your god.I won’t accept some gobbeldey-gook stock phrases or some self deluding testimonial.Produce him/she/it/they or any tangible proof of any supernatural anything and I will stop feeling superior.Until then I will see all believers as at best deluded by fear or as is more likely, simply delusional.

come on people… anyone with an IQ over 80 can differentiate fact from BULLSHIT which is what the bible is.. it was written by savages!! not god… it is stupid stories that people believed in when we didnt know any better.. but is is 2009!!! we know the earth isnt flat.. we know adam and eve didnt exist and we for sure know noah didnt put all 10 billion species on a boat.. i mean this is ridiculous and any one who thinks this acually happened should go to the doctor and ask for a pill for anti-retardedness.. all religion does is create hatred and war and makes people predjudice/ethnocentric.. 911 etc etc.. people who say jesus this jesus that are only saying it cuz they were BRAINWASHED by their parents .. do any parents let their children choose their religion and beliefs .. ?? NO!!!!!!! before they were born their beliefs were already chosen for them… and if their parents were to have changed their beliefs before they were born and were now for example muslim this same person would now be saying praise allah instead of jesus!!!! RELIGION=BRAINWASHING ..plain and simple..

Well, where is the proof that God, if he exists, loves you or for that matter, even cares about you or even notices you exist? I’m fairly certain that if he does in fact exist, he would not waste time noticing insignificant specks such as ourselves. Furthermore, you Bible-thumpers practically scream in our faces that He exists, He did this, He did that and he has a special list of 10 things you Shall Not Do or straight to Club Hell you go, dont forget the suntan lotion. Show me ONE SOLID IRREFUTABLE SHRED OF PROOF that he exists, loves us very much, keeps a close eye on things. Oh wait….there isnt. In fact, your God is a very angry, hostile, intractable God, isnt he? And every single time I confront one of you people with LOGIC, something you all don’t deal with too well…I get the same tired beat-to-death Cop-Out of All Time: The Lord Works In Mysterious Ways. That makes me want to break your Seventh Commandment right there. The arrogance of your Church that has the temerity to tell me Im damned and going to Hell (Hi Lucy Im home!!) simply because I don’t believe in Him. Put it this way: If He is as wonderful as you say he is, and He in his infinite love and wisdom cares for us all…..do you think he would give a rat’s ass whether we believed in Him or not? Oh yeah one more thing before I go: Regarding Thou Shalt Not Kill (Murder)….don’t you think He is more guilty of that than anyone in History combined?

(22) Ali says:

Religion gives us a code of life. One thing that we Muslim are sure of, that Judaism, Christianity and Islam are heavenly religions granted for people living in different periods. If you observe things around, you will see that God has taught us everything which we need to take care of. Adam n Eva was sent to earth because they could not control their desires. They left lesson for us that we have to control our desires( sex without marrige, greed for money) etc.God made it more easier for us by sending his messages through Torah, Bible, n Quran…In our daily life we see that when a book is published it serves for a certain time span. When time goes on the needs of the readers change thus a new book is published which satisfies new needs.Quran was sent in the end n it claims for its originality in its unique verses that it can never be edited or changed. Thus God has finalised Quran as a code of life for the people after Bible… May God guide us to the right path..Ameen

Has anyone gave any thought to where we would be if they never found that first bible? Remenber it was dug out of the trash. The answer is we would be right here chatting about somthing different. The bible is FICTION. Think About this, what if the entire world got wiped out, all except 2 young children and they later in life hooked up and had kids and then they found some paper work writen by Gorge Lucas? Would they PRAY TO YODA? Would Darth Vader be the feared devel….? Its the same thing, it is a nice cute collection of stories, just like the bible. THE BIBLE IS FICTION.

(25) Winston Smith says:

Ali (22) has said it.
Statements that only the purely brainwashed can make. A book that was written – as Ali said – for its time – to suit the murderous politicians of the time. To create – for want of a better phrase – a “masterrace” of the followers of a desert moon cult and that all nonfollowers are lesser beings at best. That is used as an excuse to murder, mutilate, subjugate, steal, lie – in fact every form of evil behaviour that those of us who were subjected to the “love of God” were taught were unacceptable.
The most fundamental truths in existence, Ali – are that humanity is the most creative (as well as destructive) force on this planet, that it must live in harmony with this planet and with each other if all are to survive, and that a set of humanitarian rules and responsibilties must be universally accepted (i.e. to respect each other and each others families, lives and material goods. To respect any and all peaceful cultural traditions that so beautify the human race.) In so doing, all dogma – religious or political as outlined in such works as the Bible, Quran, Torah, Mein Kampf, Das Kapital or Chairman Maos Little Red Book, among others, must be left in the libraries for students to learn how mad little men tried to maintain power over the peoples of this little planet. God is not a mad scientist in a grey beard who made such a mess of creation. God is the planet, and all of nature – live with it and love it.

I must say, everyone on this forum is certainly entitled to his of her own opinion. If you will allow me.

Not too long ago I was a Harvard-Law-Degree-Holding member of society with the Absolute-Arrogance-Of-Mankind.

Get out of my way, God does not exist, I hate my Dad for being nothing more than a well educated liar, My mother for leaving, (I have forgiven her) I want the biggest house money can buy, I will lie to win, I will shake your hand and stab you in the back as you turn to leave, then I will bill you.

17 years later I found myself to be my Dad. A once successful attorney fired for being a 16 year alcoholic. I asked God to help me and guess what?

He did.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I say, God is real.

More than 3/4 of these people, with their street chump tough comments, foul lauquage, and oh-so-shrewd wits about them… why they’re so sure of themselves, aren’t they?!?!

They too, as they age, will come to see, God is real. He is here, and in your heart, waiting patiently.

The rest of you? I will pray for your souls.

Now get off the internet and go do something productive!

Smiling from Cabo and I’m not doing anything productive… Frank

(27) The Kode Warrior says:

I see everyone’s point. I served in Iraq for 38 months and avoided death but still received a gunshot wound. I was brought up agnostic and I carried this throughout my life, even during Desert Storm, along with our current situation. After returning home for the last time in 2005, I became a “self-medicator” with my pain medication. Last year, I tried to commit suicide, but something kept me alive. I was involved in a car accident after injecting myself with Propofol (the drug that supposedly killed Michael Jackson) then I overdosed on Fentanyl. Someone doesn’t want me to leave this earth. I have found my higher power and am a spiritual person today. I believe there is a God, even though I can find scientific proof for everything that has occurred since the dawn of time. I still will not boast my standing on spirituality nor will I engage in a theological argument, I just tell my story and leave it at that for others to discuss. Thanks for reading

(28) Anthony says:

Are all of you complete morons? I mean seriously people, come on. You’re being ridiculous. Of course the bible is fiction. Do you actually READ what it says? Lol. Wow. Santa is seriously more believable. Christians and other religious nuts are so blind….blind to reality. Any intelligent person should know that there is no God. There never was. There never will be. Get over it and get on with your lives. Without religion, many lives will be saved. I think it’s funny how the so-called “saved” are killed in wars based upon religious quarrels. Only the weak could believe in such a thing. But brighten up—At least you know you won’t spend eternity burning in hell now!

(30) jblayze says:

you guys are hilarious lol

to all the atheists or people that dont believe in heaven and hell, i pose this question: WHY DO YOU GIVE A F*CK WHAT THE HELL ANYONE ELSE BELIEVES IN?? if you dont believe the bible- hey whatever, you’re grown up and you’re gonna do whatever you want regardless. christians dont force you to believe. they preach salvation. take it or leave it. and if christians tell you that you’re going to hell for not believing, why does it bother YOU if you dont believe in hell anyway? does it make you feel better to call those who believe in a god “stupid” or “morons”? guess what. nobody cares how idiotic an atheist thinks a christian is because in a christian’s eyes, you’re the one going to hell for eternity, and IMHO going to heaven is worth being called a moron. FYI.

and to make things worse, a lot of you on here are telling the bible stories without having read them, or shall i say .. STUDIED them, which is common, because someone who doesnt WANT to believe isnt expected to study a text in the subjects favor right? i mean, i choose not to worship “flying spaghetti monster” therefore im not going to google it.

to bob and sarah, yes that was a good question, due to the amount of water there was (regarding the story of noah). to answer your question, from the biblical text, the water was on earth for 150 days according to genesis 8, then it began to decrease. after 7 months or so, it had receeded enough for the arc to be able to halt on top of a mountain (werent the remains found and documented some years ago that proved this? not sure, but i digress) after another 3 months noah started sending a dove or a raven or some bird out to “see” if there was dry land. he does this for a couple weeks or so. basically if he was brought back a leaf or something, it was almost safe to leave. when the dove never came back from the last time he sent it out, the bird had found a resting place, meaning it could look for food (in the ground) and live and flourish without having to come back to noah. that served as his proof that the ground was decently dry. that is to answer your question about where the water went. it simply dried up and evaporated just like it does today. this process took almost a year. the text says noah was 600 (plus 17 days and 2 months) years old when he entered the arc. when this whole ordeal came to an end, he was 601 years old (and 1 month and 1 day).

someone mentioned the whole thing with adam and eve’s sons marrying. look, the bible never says God stopped creating people. it doesnt have too. adam and eve would have to have sex constantly to produce a planet full of people. and thats assuming they had a boy, then a girl, etc, became old enough to reproduce, and then repeat. im sure it was much easier to create the first beings and THEN have them multiply.

meanwhile, The purpose of the bible was to tell the story of Jesus beginning with his lineage which starts with adam. it mentions the MEN (the bloodline/seed) who matter the most for the story. therefore its not gonna say god created Tina and Shelly and Tiffany and Keisha and Billy and Robert etc… None of that matters and it shouldnt.

and to you people who want “proof” lol
really? prove god exists? christians are human, guys, we cant literally prove without a shadow of a doubt that god exists. but we also cant prove he DOESNT exist. can you prove pain exists or that a person is faking it?

we only have faith. but the matter is this: why should christians have to prove ANYTHING to YOU to save YOUR soul? its your soul, save it yourself if you dont wanna listen to what we tell you. i know that sounds harsh, and i know one of you smartasses is gonna throw that “WWJD” in my face but if ALMIGHTY GOD has the power to do anything, including changing your mind for you, but will NOT, why should I? faith is a very personal thing, its up to you and only you. God gave us the freedom to choose, which is what a lot of you forget.

oh and one of you mentioned that God created Satan. this isnt true. God created beings (angels, man, animals, etc)…and all have the power to think and act as they please, but as we all learn, there are consequences for those actions. Lucifer (aka satan) was an angel. in fact, dude was the most beautiful angel. but he got his head stuck up his own ass and, God, the Master of the Universe basically, kicked him out of heaven. Lucifer, all sore about what happened, wants to reak havok because he is mad about it and if he’s going down, he’s taking as many souls as he can muster with him, just to piss God off even more. the problem is, people are totally falling for it.

if i was god, and i created you and i love you and offer you redemption, and you still dont even acknowledge that i exist? i would be quite pissed off too.

whats interesting is that even SATAN believes theres a God, Jesus, heaven and hell so if you non-believers are wrong, I wonder if you would be tortured in hell worse than they will be…

and IF believers are wrong (although i have no doubt in christianity, but for sake of argument), so f*cking what. there would be no hell. not to say that fear should be the motivation, but thats a damn good consideration.

im no saint im just making a point. comments welcome. have a great day

Thanks ‘Jblayze’ for your comment. It’s the most logical/honest one I’ve read on here.

Anyway, I was an atheist, until a few weeks ago when my new room-mate at university persuaded me to start reading the bible. So I started reading it, and I gotta say, it’s enlightening.

Everything about religion that I thought was so flawed and so obviously ‘fictional’, is explained by the bible. This is not to say that I believe in God just yet, but I’m definitely no longer an atheist.

To anyone who says they are an atheist, I suggest you give the bible a chance, and if you still feel strongly about your belief, then fair enough. Howevever, ever since I started reading the bible, I’ve been a happier person and everything around me has generally been positively changing, most likely because I’m viewing the world around me in an entirely different way.

But yeah, I hope you have a great life, whoever you are, and whatever you may believe :)

(35) Kali says:

I have read all of the posts and I must say this is a compelling somewhat intellectual debate. I have two things to add 1. The atheist side has a lot of cussing and anger hmmm… 2. These 40+ men who wrote the Bible over 1600 years whether people like to believe it was fiction or not, were trying to keep the 10 Commandments (including thou shalt not lie), that was the norm in their religion. If you really think about the place they came from mentally when they were writing and the origins of their enthusiasm especially in the New Testament, well I don’t think that a “book of lies” would have been so well preached about and died for by many of these men. All you atheists have you heard of the Waldenses and the Albigenses?
Of course there are the many people who have been inspired to write and create a religion by the “dark side” and it is important to look into that as well.

As for the idea of evolution and that we humans came from pond scum. I suggest that all of you watch videos by Walter Veith, a former evolution professor who is now a Christian. And don’t forget to look up in the sky on a clear night and REALLY contemplate your beliefs. God Bless!

(36) I am unashamed says:

“For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith- and it is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
What is Faith? “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of the things unseen.” Hebrews 11:1
What is hope? Hope=peace.
What is peace? Peace=Hope in God and with God that he will get you through. Ephesians 2:12-15

Taking those things into consideration.

We all have our own belief systems. And we all stand strong and steadfast to them, and we will not budge on “our” truth. Why? Because we as people need something to beleive in. We need truth in our lives to even get us up in the morning.
Whether you are a beleiver or a non-beleiver, Jew or Gentile, Christian or Atheist, Muslim or Budist, Evolutionist or Creationist.
We are all people who have our own “truth.” Our own Faith. And Just just like the multitude, i will not budge on what i beleive to be truth in my life.
I am a Christian, but i am not religious, but i do have my religion. What is religion anyways? Relgion is a set system of Doctrinal teachings. But make no mistake by calling me relgious, because i am not.
I look at the Pharisees. They were religious. And Jesus Christ rebuked them.
I look at the Bible, and I will be honest with you. I cannot prove it all to be true, but do not call me a moron for beleiving it to be true.
because that is my Faith. i beleive in it because it gives me hope, gives me a foundation to stand on. and that is exactly why you hold to your guns in your beleifs, in your faiths. Because it gives you a foundation to stand on.
Even scientists cannot prove exactly how everything came to be. They have their theories of how, but it is not proven to be true. Even though it is taught in schools to have been proven to be fact(so could you considered all school students to be brainwashed into that beleife system?). that is where scientists have their faith, so therefore it is their truth in their lives.
I have Faith in God, and that he does exist, and it by his grace that i am saved through beleive in my heart and cenfessing with my Mouth that Jesus is Lord, God raised him from the dead saving me from my sins.
But beleive me, i am not sinless. but i am working on it. That is why in the Bible, it says the ultimate goal as a Christian is the salvation of your soul. Its a life Long Process. Getting your 3 part body to line up. You are a spirit, that has a soul(will and emotions), and you live in a body(your flesh). Its a process us Christians beleive in, no matter what anyone says.

But i do have something to say to some of the Believers up above in this “debate.”
Why are you slamming your beliefs down other peoples throats. Our purpose here is to go out telling the Gospel and making disciples for Christ(Matthew 28). Not to force people in to our faith. if it is forced on people, then can it be truly “their” faith? Christians, come on! people will not listen to you if you do not listen to them. People have to buy into the messenger before they buy into the message. People will not care until they know you care. Condemning them to hell if they do not beleive what you beleive is not showing that you care, thats showing that you have given up hope.
there is a time and season for everything. Some are called to plant seeds, some are to water the seed planted, and others will go out and harvest the crops. That is why you only tell the gospel. Because that is planting a seed, and maybe to someone else that seed was already planted and you just watered it and then they ask questions and you show that you care, and then they beleive what you beleive. you harvest.
Another thing i would like to say to Believers. Where is the fruit of the Spirit at in yourdelivery?(galatians 5) Some of you need to have some gentleness, some kindness too. And definitely some self control. You all mean well, but alot of you, if i wasnt so strong in my faith, wouldve made me faulter and drive further away from God.
JBlayze. You were prolly the most honest out of everyone thus far. i liked what you had to say. But let me correct and encourage you. Clean the language up a little…i realize that you humbled yourself and said you were no saint. but the thing is, is that you should start trying to become a saint. Because you are the workmanship of God. You are the righteousness of God. when you became a beleiver, you became a new creation on the inside. you are no long a slave to sin but a servant to righteousness.
Also to the beleivers. You should Go read 1 Peter 3:8-4:19

3 years ago in my life, i lived a mess. and i grew up in church, my family is christian. So i guess i am one of those brainwashed as a child into the christian beleif system. But the thing is, is that yea i beleived it. But my beliefs were empty. I heard what the bible had to say and the stories inside them, and i beleived them blindly. I never studied it out for myself for it to be truth in my own life. Not until the last 2 years. But back to my life as a mess. I lived a life of pornography. i was addicted. I had frustrations in my life, alot of reject and self esteem issues. I had anger that caused me to break things. punch holes in walls break windows. But yet i still called myself a Christian. I wasnt a christian. I only had a Christian Belief System background. It hadnt yet become truth in my life. It hadnt become truth in my life until a missions trip to Guatemala. i saw miracles happen, lives changed. Believe it or not, it still happened, and it is Truth in my life. And that is when My beleif system began to become truth in my life. Because of all the stories i heard about, they were actually starting to appear in my own life.
The last 2 years have been difficult in battling myself. replacing old desires with new desires is painful. But its well worth it, because i do not have an anger problem any longer. i do not hate any longer. I am free from pornography. and i submit myslef to authority or myself now. I consider others more than i consider myslef now. If in a circumstance i would lay my life down for anyone, as hard as that is to beleive. If a person i never met before and I were being held by a gunman and he shot at them, i would gladly jump in front of the bullet. Because i know where i will go according to what i believe. But I have no idea what is going on in their life… so i will gladly give them the chance to further their life. I love people. I love you, even though i do not know you. That is the message of the Gospel. To preach who Jesus Christ is, and who he is, is Love. And my duty as a Christian is for myslef to tell you the truth in my life is what i beleive to be Truth for all of you, only because it is in the Bible and i beleive what the Bible says so therefore i must stick to it. I beleive what i read, not read what i beleive(something that alot of christians like to do-pick and choose). In John 14:6 Jesus says,”I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father(God) by by me.”

And to those who want proof that God exists. i cannot provide the Truth in yourlife. But I know that God can. So i pray that he sends a miriacle your way. For miracles are not for the beleivers but for the unbeleivers. But you must do one thing. Expect that one is coming your way. Because one is coming, and i claim that in the Name of Jesus Christ.
Never stop looking for a mirracle either, otherwise you miight not Find one. “perseverance must finish its work, so that you may be whole, complete, and mature- not lacking anything.” James 1:4

Thank you for listening or atleast reading this.
I pray that God will help you in your times of need, in the times where you feel alone, where there is no love to be found, I pray that you will remember that God is there waiting for you to cry out to him.

I have been a christian most of my life, which means nothing, but the fact that I may be biased is definately true. Would I still believe Santa if my parents always have…probably not. What if I was told if I didn’t believe in him,I would go to hell? That is alot harder to break from, because now my soul seems at stake for this belief.

Alot of you people say that becoming a christian, God has changed your life, and positive things have been happening. Is this good logic for someone to believe? Awhile ago in history people wwould drill holes in the skulls of epileptics in hopes of relieving a demonic spirit, and that is bad logic which we know to that way even as christians because of the advances in medicine. So, this is what ancient Christians used to believe before we’ve understood things better, and these are the very people every Christian is hanging there hope on. You can argue that it was the peoples wrong doing and not Gods, but then He never would’ve let man write the book. Wouldn’t it be wise to test ancient logic with current logic?

Did Judas fullfil Gods plan by betraying Jesus? Didn’t God turn his back on Jesus in a sense betray his Son? Why did Jesus say it would been better if Judas never been born? I mean, Gods plan was to have his son killed after all.

Im tired of hearing people say they won’t find proof of God. They have to take it on faith. Some people can say things to me that I can take on faith, but they are small miniscule claims, BUT, the bigger the claim is, the more proof is required. If someone came today and said he was Enoch (he didnt die in the bible) would you believe him without proof? So, if you say you believe in God, and give petty feeling mumbo jumbo with a large claim — the proof doesn’t suffice a large claim. Challenge your claim/belief, if it is in fact true, the truth has nothing to hide from investigation, it will come out as truth, always.
2+2=4 will always be 4. Investigate it and mathematicaly prove it, it is always the same, it represents 4 with what 2 represents.

However, I decided to praise myself for the good things I have instead of giving all the credit to someone I’ve never seen. Isn’t it funny how Religion justifys so may peoples actions yet when one gets into trouble with tha law, even mentioning religion as a cause creates laughter. Or how about global disaster, where is the almighty saviour then? If you ask me, religion is like a bedtime story, it ONLY helps you get to sleep at night. Some of the measnest people I’ve ever met were super religious. For you christians out there, if you dare, read the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Open YOUR mind!

I got saved when I was 17 and have believed in Jesus Christ since. I am now 28 and trying to figure out the questions many of you are asking. I’m not going to lie, it is hard to fully grasp a man being eaten alive by a whale and living in its belly for days. But I was moved enough at 17 to still know and believe what I believed that day. Being a Christian isn’t about believing in a fairy tale and sleeping well at night; Christians are murdered and persecuted to this day and will forever be. No one ever was ever killed for believing in Santa.
#18 I fasted for the first time in February 2009 because my dad was hospitalized for brain damage caused by internal bleeding (because either an EMT damaged his esophagus or a surgeon punctured his lunge). At 9:28 AM on 2/11/2009 after praying I heard clear as day your dad is coming home to Me. Without a doubt I knew my God was talking to me and so I stopped what I was doing and headed to the hospital 25 minutes away. I went to the ICU where he’d been and his room was full of nurses and doctors and I could see them performing CPR. I went in and talked to a doctor who stated that for the past 25 minutes they’d been performing CPR. So, my God told me my dad was going to heaven when I was 25 minutes away from his hospital. I didn’t get a phone call from a human doctor stating your dad has passed, yet I got a phone call from God Almighty as it happened and the humans confirmed it 25 minutes later. I am not a psychic, yet a Christian who sought after God and heard from God about my dad’s precious after-life.
That my atheist, agnostic, non-believing friends is nothing short of a miracle. Just so you know, I am not a bible beating, every Sunday church going, tongue speaking Christian (nothing against anyone who is). I am a plain 28 year-old who loves Jesus Christ deeply, eats meat, prays daily, struggles with cussing, stops to help strangers and homeless folk, has been heart broken (by love and by the sadness world sufferings), loves Fleetwood Mac & Fly Leaf, gets mad at family and friends, forgives them while they forgive me, …. I am HUMAN… meaning I will make mistakes and will be mean at times, but so will you! Who has never been mean? Christians aren’t perfect; we definitely need to hold ourselves accountable to the standards we believe in, but none the less humans struggle with every waking moment. For you educated people I am sick of hearing how Christians are hypocrites; HUMANS are hypocrites, who can honestly say at one point or another they haven’t contradicted themselves, for crying out loud children do it. Are kids hypocrites, no they suffer from human nature and fighting off sin and evil.
Those of you who are brave enough to pray to God with a MUSTARD SEED of faith by asking that He help you know the truth… simply that… You will be shown the truth.
Life is about more than daily survival… if you sense there must be more, then there is.
PS – why are all of you bashing Christian beliefs and not Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, etc beliefs? Also, I have agnostic friends whom I love deeply and whom love me. I don’t hate anyone, but I can tell they are searching deeply and will know the truth one day. Why do you have to try so hard to disprove something you don’t believe in?

If religeous belief was as the result of logical consideration my family of 4 would have a Christian a Muslim a Jew and perhaps an Atheist in it. Us all having come to a logical conclusion regarding what we believe. However about 90% of people believe what those around them at an early age believe. In times past this was necessary as if you believed anything other than your neighbours they tended to set you on fire. Clearly another thing we have God to thank for.

Knowing there is no God means I can get on and enjoy my life without all the guilt and hassle that comes with believing. We are however all free to believe what we want however ridiculous others consider it to be.

I am God. The Bible is nonsense because I God have said so. This is true because I have said it. There is no debate on this because it is true. It is written here and here is what matters. There is no other source of authority because I state that there is no other authority but that which I have written.

All other arguments based on science, reason or evidence are irrelevant because you must only have faith.

Alternatively you could read other books and discover that just because the Bible says it, it ain’t necessarily so.

However yo’ve got to have faith. Because facts and evidence are so uncomfortable for you if you’re God.

I was 6 years old when I stopped believing in God; I think I had made it through 1 whole year of church, but it only took a month to realize something was wrong. I am a very intelligent person, I have an IQ of 154. According to Christians however, I’m not intelligent, I am the one who is pitied. When I was 18 I was working security for the State Fair and went on break, I stopped by this booth and some lady hands me a pamphlet; I turned it over and it was some church. I looked up at the lady and said, “I am not religious” and she replied “I pity you”. Christians please, save your pity, my life is full and robust and I did it on my own, no one guided me. I’m honest and friendly, because by common sense it is the way to be, I don’t need 10 commandments to tell me how to be.

Lets take a look at that word “commandment”, a commandment is a command in written form. A command is an order, or something you do because you ‘have’ to, not because you choose to. So your God commands you to be the way you are?

The most dangerous people I have ever encountered in my 33 years of life have been Christians, Mormons and Catholics. I have never ever had an agnostic or atheist threaten bodily harm on me, coincidence I think not.

The bible was written 325CE and has been translated millions of times since then. Native Americans never believed in God or Jesus, well not until they were forced to do so by white settlers. I see that a lot in Christians, they really like to force their crap on people. White Man Says, “you will take christian names and follow the christian faith or die”, that seems like a typical christian phrase. Another one of Gods great creatures was Hitler, I guess killing all those Jews was on of those things. Can you really say, “God works in mysterious ways” with that course of action?

Religion has a bit of humor too, you look at any religion around the globe and every religion says that all other religions are blasphemy.

I believe in life, my life and the lives around me. My whole family is Christian except me, do I still love them yes, do they still love me yes, do they force their beliefs on me, no, do I force mine on them, no. My belief is my choice, I think more parents should allow their children to believe what ever they want, even if they’re only 6 years old when they choose.

BTW God, You’re Double-Parked.

I think most people who slam atheists don’t realize that, for some of us, losing our faith is not something that happens lightly or fast; it takes a long time to realize that the preacher/priest you put so much faith into as a child seems very wrong in his ideals and opinions. I can say that religious holidays mean far less to me now as compared to when I was younger, and that is sad in some ways.
I have read the bible backwards and forwards, and have studied it in certain aspects with some very knowledgeable people. This, combined with my scientific studies, have led me to some questions. These questions are both scientific and philosophical in origin:

1. If the universe is only 6000 years old, we would see no stars. Using red-shift as well as other measuring devices, we can accurately determine the distance between the earth and other deep-space objects. If the universe were only 6000 years old, we would only see the objects that are within 6000 light years away, (With the naked eye, of course).
2. For lack of a better explanation, there isn’t enough “space” for the amount of water it would take to flood the earth in its entirety. There isn’t enough atmosphere to hold the water that would evaporate, and, because of the depth of the ocean, it certainly couldn’t have escaped into the crust. Billions and billions of metric tons of water would simply have to vanish for this to be possible.
3. The Bible does not mention dinosaurs, and yet, we know they lived and had a much different ecosystem than the one inhabited by humans today. It has been widely proven that humans and dinosaurs did not exist on the planet at the same time.
4. Where did Noah find polar bears?
5. It is stated that Adam named all species on the planet, and, yet, hundreds of species are discovered every year.
6. Why didn’t God reveal himself to everybody in the world at once? If the plan was to reveal himself to the chosen people, and then have them do missionary work, didn’t he know that the missionary work would unfortunately include the killing of people for non-belief?
7. How many generations of Native American, Chinese, Indian..etc people died before the missionaries made it to the new world and began saving people? Did these people go to hell because they didn’t believe in Jesus?
8. If there is an omnipotent being that knows, not only everything that has ever happened, but everything that will ever happen, then he knows I will not believe in him, and that I’m going to go to hell; before I was even created he knew my fate. Why would a loving being allow children to be murdered and why did he allow Hitler to live? I use the phrase “allow” because in Christian belief, pre-destiny is real, therefore Hitler was destined to perpetuate the atrocities that he did; I can’t believe an all-knowing and loving God would have allowed something like this to occur.
9. God would have known that Lucifer would betray him, and that a war between the angels would have happened. He would have also known that Lucifer would be an extreme negative force that would poison the world he created.
10. How did the angels harm/kill each other during this war? Did they have souls? Where did they go when they died? Did they die?
11. Why are none of the extremely important historical relics from the Bible accounted for today? Where is the arc of the covenant? Where is Noah’s Arc? Why haven’t we found the garden of Eden?
12. There is no concrete or specific historical proof Jesus ever existed.
13. Are apples still forbidden today? (Sounds silly, but there is a point there).
14. Why were the first specific documents in the New Testament written in Greek? Shouldn’t they have been written in Aramaic?
15. Why did a consortium determine what would be in the bible and what would be left out? If this is the true inspired word of God, how can ANY of it be left out for fear of angering God?
16. Neanderthal, Cro-Magnon and Australopithecus all lived but were never mentioned in the bible.

I realize religion is very important to a lot of people. And I think the debate can be had without cursing and over-reaction. But, in response to a lot of the people that post here, yes, we have read the bible, and we have concluded that the stories contained were written by men that were commenting on the geo-political times in which they lived. If you put the bible in it’s entirety into context, it really does seem very far-fetched and fantastical:

1. A man being trapped in a whale’s stomach and then escaping.
2. A single man named every species of animal on the planet
3. A man whose strength is determined by the length of his hair
4. A great flood and a man that put two of every animal on a boat for re-population
5. God and Satan torturing a man to reveal his true allegiance to God.
6. A burning bush.
7. A group of nomadic people surviving in the desert for 40 years.
8. A virgin birth and Jesus having no other brothers or sisters. Middle Eastern families were very large in the 1st and 2nd centuries.
9. A man that can walk on water
10. A man feeds 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish
11. A man that can turn water into wine.
12. A man that can raise the dead, heal the sick, and give the blind their sight back. Why wouldn’t he do that for people today?

In my opinion, the stories in the Bible were written for a couple of reasons: they were used as moralistic tales for children and as a way to control a growing population by using tales of death and hell. We are talking about a group of people that did not have TV, or stereos, or Ipod’s, or movies…etc. When the sun went down, a great past-time was to sit around the camp-fire and repeat tales of great magic and wonder. The stories of the bible were passed down from village to village for decades before they were ever written down. Over the years, these stories were embellished, renamed and even rewritten. The politicians turned these stories into a belief system, and now this system is used to shun and segregate people. Let’s not be fooled into thinking the ‘My God is better than your God’ mentality isn’t alive and well today.

Everything I’ve outlined here will be sweepingly tossed aside by someone with one simple phrase: “You just have to have faith”.

The beauty of science is that we know that it is ever changing, and the conclusions we make today can be shown to be completely false tomorrow. We do not alter our experiments to fit the conclusion, and that’s where I believe Science and religion clash.

I refuse to believe that there is a gray-haired invisible man sitting in the sky somewhere granting wishes to only the people that believe in his specific ideals and morals..I really think as an evolved species we’re above this.

But, this is just my conclusion…I could be wrong…. =)

I refuse to believe that there is a gray-haired invisible man sitting in the sky somewhere granting wishes to the people that believe in his specific ideals and morals..I really think as an evolved species we’re above this.

But, this is just my conclusion…I could be wrong…. =)

13.5 billion years ago the ever expanding universe was created by what most scientist agree was a result from “The Big Bang.” 4.5 billion years ago gasses and molecules combined to create the planet Earth. 200,000 years ago Humans evolved into what we are today. As our mental ability became more sophisticated we developed questions about ourselves and our environment. Living in a pre-scientific society we had no way of answering perplexing questions like where rain came from, why the sun existed, what controlled the solar cycle, and above all what happens to a person after they die. Religion was created by man as a way to answer these difficult questions. As Science become more advanced we were able to answer questions about the environment which resulted in some religions that worship the Sun, Moon, Rain, etc, ceasing to exist.

The question of what happens when we die has still not been answered thus the reason for the continued existence of religion. I believe most people follow a religion out of fear and insecurity. We as humans have a difficult time accepting the fact that no one knows what happens in the afterlife or if there even is one. Religion provides us with a warm blanket of well being and an answer to the most difficult question known to mankind. You can prove the sense of well being by telling yourself your existence and the possibility of an afterlife is entirely unknown. Now tell you yourself you have a purpose and there will be an afterlife for you. Which one feels better? It feels comforting knowing you have a purpose and there will be an afterlife. This feeling of existence and an afterlife after death is the reason man invented religion.

What I find most profound about religion is the unquestioned following. When humans created the very religions still in existence today they were extremely rudimentary. Humans at this time thought the earth was flat, they didn’t bathe, they didn’t even wipe their ass, yet despite being so primitive people to this day believe their sometimes excessive, over the top rules to life and answers to the unanswerable. You have to respect most religious individuals unwavering faith in early Humans theory of our purpose.

You just have to look at the state of the catholic church which is nearly bankrupt due to peodophile lawsuits and theese men are the same people who stand in front of sunday worshippers who look up to them and wish that they could live there life in that manner and have there inner peace. It,s the biggest hoax in the world.

(57) STRESST says:

I was raised in a Baptist church and taught that the Bible was the word of God given to mankind via mortal man and was the complete and truthful word. No errors, no contradictions, no mistakes. But my mind has been swamped for some time now with most of the same things I have been reading so far. How does a loving God who cares and loves his creations let all the bad things happen? When a father in his mid 50′s in excellent health gets pneumonia, the church prays dilligently for his recovery, and he dies 30 days later, how do you explain it to yourself, muchless to someone else? Jesus said “Ask and it shall be given you”. We practically begged and he died. People say “God has a plan”, then why pray? God knows best. Our pastor prayed for over 20 minutes last Wednesday night at Bible Study for Revival. Are we trying to “make” God do what we say? If revival comes, won’t it be on His terms and conditions?
I’ve become very disillusioned with the Bible. My current thoughts are like much of what I have read. It was meant to give oppressed people long ago some hope when they are down. That’s all. Written by man, not God. That’s why even the disciples kept expecting Jesus to establish His earthly kingdom. They were still hoping for a better life here on earth all the way to his death.
Thoughts:
Moses (supposedly) wrote Genesis 600 years after-the-fact and we’re supposed to believe “no errors”?
How come all 4 gospels are different on the events following the ‘resurrection of Jesus’? Why did he only appear to a select few of his followers, only the faithful core group? If a handful of Jim Jones’ followers survived the Kool-Aid and wrote that they saw him walking, talking, and eating a few days after he had died, would we declare him Christ? How many would believe it?
Was Job a human guinea pig to be played with by God and this defective angel he created?
When David sinned and God gave him 3 choices for his punishment, why did 70,000 men have to die for David’s screwup? I have a little (OK, a lot) trouble believing I have to be punished because someone else “after God’s own heart” messed up. If my pastor checks out the cleavage of a model during a TV commercial, is half the congregation going to pay?
Who witnessed Jonah get swallowed by a fish and then get regurgitated on the beach? Isn’t he the author of the book that bears his name? How did he know it was 3 days if he was in the belly the whole time? If he had a sundial on his wrist, I think it would have been hard to see with all the digestive fluids he was covered in. Did he have gills during this period so he could breathe?
When Jesus fed the multitudes, how come nobody seemed impressed?
Why is nothing recorded of Jesus’ actions during his teens and twenties?
There’s a commercial out right now that says “I have a personal relationship with Christ”. I’m not a very emotional person, but how can even an emotional person have a personal relationship with someone or something that they can not physically touch?
And last for now….Not trying to be blasphemous, but Jesus didn’t do anything for me that the American soldier hasn’t done!

okay. like what everybody said the before, bible is fiction. astrology has been around a lot longer than religion. as an earlier post said, people created religion becasue they did not know any better. people did not know why certain things happened so the made up a man in the sky that controlled everything. in my opinion, people still follow reliogion today is because they want something to belive in. in my opinion belive in what ever makes you happy.

the bible is fiction. but if people want to belive in a fictional book, SO BE IT! the only problem i have is religious people preaching, and telling other people that do not follow their religion that are wrong. thats fucked up.

believe in what what help get you through the day. i my self belive in KARMA. be good to others and good will come.

im contradicting my self here but i will preach. dont live your life by what a book tells you.

live your life thru the experiences you have and learn from those experiences. the more you learn the less you will have to think, just follow what your gut tells.

A few thoughts. If you do the math the great flood covered the earth to a depth of 22 feet above the highest mountain. Everest is 27,000 ft high. To cover the earth to a height of 24,000 ft it would have to rain 5 inches A MINUTE! 5 inches of rain X 1440 minutes in a day X 40 days. then divide by 12 to convert inches to feet. Imagine the force of that flood. And the largest wooden ship ever built has to withstand this force. (to this day there has not been another wooden ship built as big. They do not have the structural strength to avoid racking and leaking without steel reinforcing.)
If we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, then again the 8 members of Noah’s family, Why are there hundreds of language dialects?
Also it strikes me as a bit odd that all the people who spoke to God lived within a few hundred miles of where all the worlds opium was produced. At least the native Americans were honest enough to admit when they went out alone to speak to the great spirit, they deprived themselves of sleep and smoked peyote to assist in the contact.

I love that scripture in Ezekial 4:12 where God tells Ezekial to bake himself some bread using human dung. Ezekial protests then God tells him he can bake it with cow dung.

Does anybody ever read the Bible anymore? In places it is a violent dirty book. None of it is true. It is all legends, myths, allegories, etc. All the “miracles” of the Bible were either magic tricks or misunderstanding of natural phenomena or misrepresentations of some kind.

If the flood story was true we would all be the descendants of incest and God would have been one of the greatest killers of all time since the whole world except for Noah and his family were supposed to have been wiped out. What with disease and death at childbirth one family would probably not have been enough for a breeding group to kickstart mankind. Oh, but God can do it all. Yeah, you can believe that, I don’t.

The stories in the Bible may reflect some of the thinking at the time. The above story about eating dung may have reflected the “hippies” of the day eating human dung like they try dangerous things in this day and time. The Adam and Eve story probably reflected the fact that many people asked “Where did we come from?” Somebody, probably several somebodies, gave some simple, inaccurate answers. The important thing was they were asking the question. Darwin and others finally answered that one. The tower of Babel was the answer to the question where the different languages came from. They couldn’t seem to believe that people had evolved languages over a long period of time. It was a simple quick answer. Other Bible stories are in the same category.

He then told noah to build an ark and take two of all animals male and female and his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives. It rained 40 days and 40 nights. And if I might ad, I suggest you all take heed to his call and get right with god. The world is sure to end soon. (75) Gene says:

As usual the atheist claims to know the bible and misses key points.

First off, with regard to how “God killed everybody in a flood, what a merciless God.” According to the bible the earth was filled with violence due to human rebellion on a global scale. God instructed the people as to how to live and they rebelled in such manners as idolatry (which included human and babysacrifice) and various forms of demonism. Being created by God he had every moral right to destroy his creation if it turned against him and became globally violent, as humanity is today (165 wars going on worldwide by last count not to mention the local violence in regular cities).

Where did all the water go? Again the bible states that following the flood during a period of upheaval of the earth’s body, the sea beds sunk down and the lands rose up, forming modern oceans which form two thirds 0f the earth.

Also to address the question of if God exists why does evil exist and if he is so powerful and good why does he not fix it. Simple. Human beings are the reason for the evil in the world and that really does not take a genius to deduce. Human beings are violent, and they refuse to live by any rules. This world is what humanity made it into. Humanity could curb much of the violence, disease and horror on this planet, but to do so would mean sacrificing things humans love, such as drugs, violence, promiscuity and host of other evils. God is not Superman, just a being who is there to come down and do a mop up job and ask no questions.

If people are going to insist on making the world into the mess it is, do they have the right to sneer at a creator for not cleaning up the mess? Look at the ten commandments. Who wants to follow those? I keep hearing how outdated they are. Hmm, when did laws against lying, stealing and killing become outdated?

Atheism is most often based on not reading the book and not paying attention to what it says.

With regard to the comments that have been made abou the gret flood and supposedly raining at a thousand feet per minute being impossible, once again, that is not what the bible said. The story of the bible states that the fountains of the deep opened up, as well as rain, meaning massive volcanic eruptions of water and lava, which would produce torrents of water.

Also, with regard to the animals, no where does it say that two of every modern, full grown animal was included. These are simply the statements made by the bible, if you are going to bash the bible, at least get what it says right first.

As for the hundreds of languages spoken by people, again, it is stated some time later at the tower of babel that the languages were confused for a reason which had to do with the buidling of the tower by Nimrod for the purpose of surviving any other floods God might send. Essentially, Nimrod was saying “yeah God I know you are there and I’ll show you who will win the next round.” That is a common attitude today, and interestingly enough, this world is made by the very people whocomplain about it being filled with evil. Go figure.

These are ones claimed at various times as intermediates between apes and human but now rejected by evolutionists themselves.

Homo sapiens neanderthalenis {neandertal man}
150 years ago neandertal reconstructions were stooped, very much like an ape-man.Many now admit that the stooped posture was due to disease{such as rickets}and that neandertals were human, fully able to speak, artistic and religous.

Ramapithecus once widely regarded as the ancestors of human,it has now been recognized as an extict type of orangutan{an ape}.

eonthropus {piltdown man} a hoax based on a human skull cap and an orangutans jaw. it was widely publiced as the missing link for 40years and it was not even a competent forgery.

Hesperopithecus {nebraska man}based on a single tooth of a type of pig now living only in Paraguay.

Pithecanthropus{java man} now regarded as human and called homo erectus.

Australopithecus africanus this was at one time promoted as the missing link.It is ape-like and evolutionist no longer consider it to be transitional.

Sinanthropus{peking man}has now been reclassified as homo erectus of the human kind.

February 10, 2011 at 2:27 am
(84) Mad Mick says:

These Ape-man adorn the evolutionary trees today that supposedly trace how homo sapiens evolved from a chimp-like creature.

Australopithecus various species of these have been proclaimed at times as human ancestores.one remaines known by the fossil “lucy”.however detailed studies of the inner ear, skulls and bone inicate that “Lucy”and her like are not part-human transitions.for example, they may have walked differently to most apes, but not in human manner.they are very similar to pygmy chimpanzee or bonobo

February 10, 2011 at 2:37 am
(85) Mad Mick says:

The supposed evidence for evolution does not withstand critical examination. The evidence is better understood in the context of God creating different basic kinds of organisms. These were capable of adapting to different enviroments by sorting the original created genetic infomation ,via natural selection. Some variation has been generated by mutations, but these are degenerate changesbinvolving loss of genetic infomation,or at best horizontal changes where information is not lost or gained.
The probability of natural processes generating new genetic infomation is so low that evolution could not possibly account in living things.
creation is the explanation consistent with the evidence.

Imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem.A clever but rebellious student claims that the teacher,s way of solving the problem is wrong.Implying that the teacher is not capable, this rebel insists that he knows a much better way to solve the prob. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious.
What should the teacher do?
If he throws the rebels out of the class, what wil bl the effect on the other students? Will they not beleive that their fellow student and those who joined him are right?
All the other students in the class might loss respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being proved wrong.
But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how he would solve the problem.
GOD has done something similar to what the teacher does.
Remember that the rebels in Eden were not the only ones involved.Millions of angels were watching.(job 38.7 ; daniel 7.10)
How GOD handled the rebellion would greatly affect all those angels and eventully all intelligent creation. So what has GOD done? He has allowed Satan to show how he would rule mankind.GOD has also allowed humans to govern themselves under satan,s guidance.

Firstly, O hallowed ones, check your facts – humans didn’t evolve from apes, but shared a common ancestor.

If “God” makes mistakes, throws temper tantrums, asks for human sacrifice and sits by and watches millions be persecuted, then he sounds more like the fictitous “Devil” – are you sure you are ralling for the right side? Would be a pity if you promoted ignorance, violence, persecution, death, destruction and intollerance for the wrong side, right? The only justification you have is that you are doing it for the good of mankind – somehow that makes it all right – would be a terrible shock if you made a mistake and acted on the opponent’s side – ever thought about that? Could the “Devil” pose as “God”? Would the “Devil” lie to you and claim to be “God”? Would the “Devil” use fear as the key motivator to drive behavior? Hmmm…. something to think about the next time you contemptfully scorn the non-believers – you may be worse, acting on Erebus’s behalf.

So, you should defend the Son of Sam – he was trying to cleanse the earth of all the vile evil. Good intentions right, just like the crusades, jihads, inquisitions, etc.

Zero factual evidence + persecution of the innocent + “just have faith” + need for emotional crutch + personal failures can be blamed on external factors + zero accountability for own ignorance = religion.

It happens again with Noah, right? So it must be.

How any person with even the faintest ability to think for themselves can see any reason to believe is beyond me. Further, if you must believe, the actions of the two major religions of the world align more closely to the “Evil One”, don’t they? Wars, conquests, persecution, rites & rituals to “cleanse” the world. So, who were the prophets then? Did they not see the damage their words would do? Think it through. If “God” gave you a brain, he sure would have wanted you to think for yourself. So, if “God” existed and stood for goodness – wouldnt that automatically make religions the exact opposite? “Preach goodness and kill anyone who doesn’t agree” seems to be the motto of most – don’t just blame the extremists and fundamentalists. If you are foolish enough to believe that someone is going to “Hell” because they don’t agree with you, you are part of the problem – a hinderence to society and true evolutionary progress. Your best contribution to humanity would be not to produce offspring, helping the global gene pool to rid itself of the “genes of ignorance”.

I’d find it easier to believe in aliens or Nibiru or that the pyramids were nuclear reactors than to believe in the rot propogated as religion – serving individuals to gain power and control you through fear, while they fill their pockets with your money. Apparantly, you can buy a place in heaven . If it is “easier for a camel with it’s full load to pass through the eye of a needle, than it is for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven”, then why does the Vatican not give away it’s wealth? Was that a typo? I guess it is also okay to have an ex-Nazi be the head of a faith. He did not know what he was doing, is not a valid excuse – hypocrisy seems to be the only element that overrides the foolishness of the followers.

Followers, you have condemned yourself to servitude of ignorance – if you are not allowed to think for yourself, question the beliefs, challenge the authority and accept yourself as an equal to the greatest religious leader – then you follow a mindless, spineless cult that will never amount to any collective good for mankind and humanity. If you believe that one spot of land is holier than another, you ignorance has fallen even further. Finally, if you think that there is any possibility that “Good & Evil” will battle it out, and somehow certain individuals will be “removed” prior to that – you need some serious help & medication.

If I’m wrong, may your individual “God” or collective “Gods” strike me down before I can publish this on the web.

Guess they are too busy starting new wars to worry about humanitarians who treat everyone equally, have respect for all life and have the ability to challenge & bash them …. don’t think for a second that they are doing something else – they are incapable of striking me. Incapable. No control over me, my actions or my destiny. Don’t sound too powerful now, do they?

BTW, I’m a self-made millionare, made every cent myself – “God” & “Devil” did not play any role – never believed for a second anyone would hand it to me or anyone could prevent it from happening. Give up the fake dream – take control of your life and stop begging for handouts of “salvation”.

Um …Mad mic…better read your bible again. God did throw out the bad students and then took away thier immortality. But wait theres more… he then told one of his “children” that they will work the ground by the sweat of thier brow until the day they die. And for the women he gave them the gift of painful labor of child birth and made them both feel guilty of thier nakedness. And then to top it off he condemed thier desendents the same fate. Wow kinda mean for a god of love. I really don’t see myself punishing my grandkids or greatkinds for my own childrens mistakes. Hell we don’t condem the children of criminals to the same fate as thier parents.

First of all let’s look at facts only. the bible is a story of 40 writers of the 66 books, you can not believe what the 40 writers wrote! this is man talking (and man is the biggest liars) also in the 66 different book there were many god’s talked about, but in the end 1 book came of this with 1 GOD, laws, to create a social control.
OK let’s get back to the beginning, everything wrote from the bible Quotes was Written by man and it say’s nothing about where god came from or does it say he named the earth. just says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”…
Well we all know back in Roman,Greek and Egyptian days, The Romans,Greeks and Egyptians called their self GODS. witch these people studied the star, planets,Calendar,Religion, etc.and were very smart people, now in this time Period your looking at 2000 years after the days of Abraham and Moses. Therefore, the Bible was written down after long periods, its words are not reliable. In fact, they theorize the Bible is a collection of near-east mythology

Now who named the planets
planets were first discovered by ancient civilizations,(Romans,Greeks and Egyptians, etc) and so planets are named after their gods.

The question, how did the Bible become the Bible? Charging the Bible was the result of “Oral transmission”, claiming, writing did not exist in the days of Abraham and Moses. If God revealed His words to Moses, how did those words get from Moses to us today?

if you are governed by faith, then your ignorance for scientific evidence should be applauded. it all starts with belief, doesnt it? albeit we can all agree that belief can be dangerous…

alot of you “saved” people claim that God came to you when times were tough and through that you all have wonderful fables to tell. now what i have noticed that you all have in common is that your mind is playing tricks on you. when you are confronted with disaster and cannot account for it, you turn to the inconcievable, intangible, illogical realm of spiritual faith in order to seek comfort in your wrongs as the church im sure is much more forgiving than the law or people you have hurt along the way… stop being cowards. i could attack the faithful with so much scientific evidence but it would be a waste of time

why attempt to correct faith with logic?

Well i guess nobody likes to walk in the warm sunshine, and watch the moon and stars after a nice sunset. cause that’s a totally bad thing right, that damn sun, shining everyday, keeping us alive and warm? the sun is here because gasses and dust ‘crashed’, and’ banged’ together. A few thoughts. If you do the math the great flood covered the earth to a depth of 22 feet above the highest mountain. Everest is 27,000 ft high. To cover the earth to a height of 24,000 ft it would have to rain 5 inches A MINUTE…

Bill N,

My rough calc (assuming a spherical earth with a diameter of ~8,000 miles) would require a drenching of about 7.4 feet per hour (constantly on average over the ENTIRE surface of the earth) for a 40 day period to elevate sea leavels such that sea level would be increased by about 5 miles. I arrived at this figure by calculating the volumes of two spheres and then dividing that result by the area of the smaller sphere. If the earth is flat, my numbers are rather meaningless because I would not have the correct measurments.
If my assumptions on this is more-or-less correct, that is one powerful heap of di-hydrogen oxide.

You do realize everyone is intitled to their own opinion. Anyone that dismisses someone’s opinion without knowing for SURE, is just as ignorant as the person who jumps off a cliff because ‘he can fly’. I am a catholic, but one of my good friends is an atheist. We have gone around in circles to prove we are right.. Guess what? We can’t. If history repeats then the bible shows that atleast. People caring for themselves ‘building golden cows because of pride.’ We only care about ourselves and what we have nowdays. Even if the bible is fake it is full of wisdom. We need to respect everyone, not just who we like. The evil get what they deserve, an environment of evil. Call religion what you like but noone is foolish for beliving in God. Einstein believed in a god. Science and faith don’t have to be seperate. Everything is not black and white, maybe we’re all wrong. I
f i’m wrong i’ll be happy i lived my life with morals and respect.

(119) Baz says:

If you look at the story of the biblical flood, and Gods supposed solution for exterminating mankind, it seems obvious that a human mind composed the events.
A primitive mind, whose world was probably no larger than a 4 day donkey ride in any direction, would not be able to concieve or imagine a better solution to killing all of mankind than a catastrophic flood.
An all knowing, all seeing intelligent God on the other hand, might very well have inflicted a plague on all of humanity except for Noah and his family.
It would have saved a great deal of time, collecting fauna from around the globe and building a huge boat and flooding the entire planet.
But as many creationists are so fond of saying” God certainly moves in mysterious ways”.
Throughout the bible–God is depicted as being a bit old fashioned and unimaginative. Not surprising really, as the authors that recorded biblical events, did so from their limited perspectives.
