My favorite bar in New Orleans is Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, on Bourbon Street
, built sometime before 1772, and one of the few remaining examples of French architecture in the French Quarter. I don't know how it's faring after Katrina, but I'm hoping that after 230 years the old dump is used to rising damp.

It’s alive and well and still the best bar in N.O. I just got back from a 4 day visit and ended up there at some point every night.
Thanks, Karen! I’m mightily relieved and totally understand the magnetism….
My wife and i visited N.O. in the fall of 2007 and it is still the best bar in The Big Easy.We love that old building,
Thanks for the update. I went to Flickr and found this great photograph of the building, taken on December 12, 2005. Looks great!
