My favorite bar in New Orleans is Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, on Bourbon Street

, built sometime before 1772, and one of the few remaining examples of French architecture in the French Quarter. I don't know how it's faring after Katrina, but I'm hoping that after 230 years the old dump is used to rising damp.
Update: The blacksmith's shop/bar was pretty much untouched by Katrina, as you can see by this photograph from December 2005.

It’s alive and well and still the best bar in N.O. I just got back from a 4 day visit and ended up there at some point every night.

Thanks for the update. I went to Flickr and found this great photograph of the building, taken on December 12, 2005. Looks great!
