MURFREESBORO--Middle Tennessee State University will respond immediately to Governor Bredesen's call for help to Tennessee schools to open their doors to students from accredited colleges or universities who have been displaced or otherwise affected by Hurricane Katrina, announced MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee.
"The immensity of this devastation is beyond our ability to put into words, and we are asking our faculty, staff and students to do whatever they can to help," McPhee said. "Our admissions people have met and worked out a plan in which we will assist any students in continuing their education until they can return to their home schools. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all whose lives have been shattered by this tragic event."
"All that a student needs to do is to bring whatever documentation he or she may have to the admissions office, and we will help them register and get into classes," said Dr. Bob Glenn, vice president for student affairs and vice provost for enrollment management. "We want to remove as many hurdles as possible and help them continue their education."
Undergraduate students should report to the admissions office (Cope Administration Building, Room 208), and graduate students should go to the College of Graduate Studies office (Cope, Room 114).
"Students will be admitted free of charge, there are rooms available in housing, and we will accommodate them with a meal plan and books," added Sherian Huddleston, assistant vice provost for enrollment management. "We will work with each student and be as flexible as possible. When they are ready to return to their home campuses, we will send a transcript of their grades."
Students who wish to contact MTSU's Office of Admissions may call 615-898-2111 or Sharon Kintzler at 615-898-2235. The main number for the Office of Graduate Studies is 615-898-2840.
