Construction for a new San Francisco condominium was halted recently, when works discovered a 19th century sailing ship buried in the alluvium. Richard Everett, a curator at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, identified the ship as belonging to the Gold Rush period, and said that the condominium site had been a ship-breaking yard owned by Charles Haer.
