600 Barrels of Incan Loot

According to a news story in the Guardian today, 10 billion US$ worth of gold artifacts stolen from the Inca during the early 18th century has been found, right where the Spanish sailor Juan Esteban Ubilla y Echeverria abandoned them in 1715. Chilean news reports say that the material includes at least some intact Incan statuary, of interest to archaeologists because an unknown quantity were melted down by the Spanish for their gold.
It doesn't look like the treasure hunters themselves will end up with the gold; the Chilean government has claimed it all.
