Last week, Field Museum archaeologists Gary Feinman and Anne Underhill began their 11th season of systematic archaeological survey in Shandong province, China. A total of 650 square kilometers has been surveyed to date, one of the largest projects ever undertaken in south Asia. The project has found and recorded hundreds of archaeological sites from different periods in ancient Chinese culture. As in previous years, the Sino-american team will be providing ongoing email posts concerning the progress of the survey between now and December 2, 2005, posted on the Field's website as dispatches, or, if you choose, sent directly to your inbox.
