The Ottoman Empire ruled much of the middle and near east beginning in the 15th century AD and continuing into the 20th century. Recent studies have indicated that, despite the traditional view of decay after the death of Suleiyman, the Ottoman Empire continued to influence the culture, religion and science of the middle east.
