Karnak is the name of a long-used Egyptian temple near Luxor, the largest of the religious sanctuaries in Thebes. The ancient dynastic Egypt temple was built in the Middle Kingdom about 2000 BC, and maintained, rebuilt, and used almost continuously for about 1,800 years, only falling into disuse and disrepair with the Ptolemies of the 3rd century BC.
