Hisarlik is the modern name for the ancient site of Troy, located in what is now Turkey. Troy was first occupied during the Early Bronze Age, 3000 BC, but is certainly most famous as the probable location of Homer's stories of the Late Bronze Age Trojan War. Hisarlik was excavated by Frank Calvert and his mentor and nemesis, Heinrich Schliemann. This gateway to information about Troy is decorated with a terrific photograph of the ruins by Jon Eben Field.
