The Stone Age (known to scholars as the Paleolithic era) in human prehistory, is the name given to the period between about 1.5 million years ago up until about 20,000 years ago, and between the first stone tools of our hominin ancestors and when we first learned to cultivate crops and herd cattle. The Stone Age can be seen as the first (very long) step in the evolution of human culture.
