A bill is up for consideration in the Utah state legislature to do away with the state archaeologist, transferring authority over the permitting process for excavation of archaeological sites to the Public Lands Policy Coordinating Office, among other nasty surprises. Pretty discouraging news in this, the 100th anniversary year of the American Antiquities Act.
