Andrew Sherratt was a terrifically influential archaeologist, in Britain and in the rest of the world. Probably best known for his work on the Secondary Products Revolution, Sherratt was also an inspirational teacher, according to this obituary at the University of Sheffield, posted on the Aegeanet discussion list. His most recent work was the ambitious ArchAtlas project, which uses remote sensing data to understand how farming and urban communities developed.
