The Windover Bog Site is an Archaic period cemetery in Florida, where at least 168 people were buried in a pond between 7000-8000 years ago. The site, now a peat bog, is unique in the North American continent, not the least for its stunning preservation. The investigations at Windover gave us the first insight into what the clothing of early hunter-gatherers in the Americas was like.

Bogs are all over North and South America. I am surprised no other bog bodies have been found in the New World before.
What an interesting question! Do bogs in America frequently have peat? It would surprise me that more bogs weren’t used for cemeteries of some sort, so I wonder if the chemistry is different?
Thanks…
