On Ancient Walls, a New Maya Epoch

Tuesday May 16, 2006
An article in the New York Times today by John Noble Wilford discusses the repercussions of the discovery of early glyphs at the San Bartolo site in Guatemala, which pushed back the date of Maya writing a few hundred years. A string of 10 characters possibly dated to 300 BC had one possibly recognizable character, called AJAW, or 'lord'. Other findings at San Bartolo include a set of murals dated to 100 BC.
