Archaeo-astronomer Anthony Aveni's latest book Uncommon Sense: Understanding Nature's Truths Across Time and Culture from the University Press of Colorado is part memoir, part history of science, part travelogue: in fact it's very difficult to classify. Which is only fair, because the book discusses the different classification systems used by people throughout history to make sense of the world and to create patterns from the dangerous chaos we live in. Wide-ranging in topics, including cultures from around the world and through time, and littered with personal recollections, Uncommon Sense is a memorable glimpse into alternate ways of dealing with our universe.
