Tour Guide in a Cellphone

What a fabulous idea this is! It's a recognized syndrome--pyramid burnout. You're walking along taking in the ruins of an archaeological site, and gradually it all looks the same. A bunch of rocks, indecipherable from another. A research project presently in development promised to help provide a live, personally-tailored guide to the ruins, right from your cellular phone.

Imagine this: you take your cellphone to your favorite set of ancient ruins and get a personally-tailored online tour of the site, with GPS data telling you where you're at and providing cultural and historical data on each of the buildings. The Agamemnon project was funded by the Information Society Technologies of the European Union (IST) and is currently testing prototypes on the sites of Paestum, Italy, and Mycenae, Greece. You don't need a special cell phone, and the program will work with UMTS, GPRS and GSM, so you don't even need WiFi. It would work like an electronic site guide, with estimated costs of 2-4 euro ($US 2.50-5.00).
