Archaeology of Belize
Saturday June 24, 2006
The lovely country of Belize (formerly known as British Honduras) has been a tourist destination for a very long time; and part of the Maya civlization for longer than that. Ongoing archaeological research in Belize includes work at Blue Creek Ruin, Blackman Eddy and K'axob; and each of these projects have terrific websites full of information.
A couple of my Flickr pals have been to Belize and took photographs of ruins, so I've built a little photo gallery of some of Belize's sites. If you've been to Belize and have some photos to contribute, by all means, drop me a line at archaeology.guide@about.com
- Belize Culture History and Archaeology, includes all of these links and more about Belize
- Belize Archaeological Ruins, a photo essay
- Blackman Eddy, a paper at FAMSI from excavator M. Kathryn Brown
- K'axob, the project webpage (nice musical theme) from Patricia McAnany at Boston U
- Blue Creek Ruin, the project website from the Maya Research Program
- Caracol, a report on decades of excavation by Arlen and Diane Chase
- Geography of Belize, from Matt Rosenberg, About's guide to Geography
- Belize, Travel and Tourism Information, from About's guide to Central America for Visitors
