The second National Symposium of Rock Art in Peru will be held in Trujillo at the end of October. Melissa Massat, long time advocate for the preservation of archaeological sites in Peru writes: "As well as the academic pursuit of promoting and disseminating research methodology and findings on Rock Art, a fundamental objective of the Symposium this year is to incite the general public to be more aware of, more proud of and more responsible for archaeological sites, precious testimony of cultural identity. The urgency of making Archaeological research more accessible to the general public is based on the growing need to valorize the wealth of diverse cultural identities which constitute the foundation for further cultural development and greater democratic participation in our rapidly changing world."
