The 10th anniversary of the death of that great public scientist, Carl Sagan, is today, and Cornell University has announced an honorary blog-a-thon. Since Sagan is one of the reasons I do science today, and was an irreplaceable role model for all of us who attempt to make science clear to the general public, here is a quote from Cosmos, in his honor.
"History is full of people who out of fear, or ignorance, or lust for power have destroyed knowledge of immeasurable value which truly belongs to us all. We must not let it happen again." Carl Sagan (referring to the loss of the Library at Alexandria). 1988. Cosmos.
