Shelley Esaak, About's terrific guide to Art History, points out in her blog today called Tree Rings, Culture, and Art History that art history can also learn from dendrochronology, and that it is a tool in what she calls "the technical examination arsenal", for helping to determine the age of a painting on wood or a drawing on paper. In her article Shelley describes how tree rings helped clear up the mystery of the "Joshua Reynolds Mona Lisa." Thanks, Shelley! Well worth a read!
