As a web person, I am an unashamed and frequent user of Flickr and StockXchng; but even I know there are limits to how useful those photo sharing sites can be, particularly if you are an archaeology, art history, or ancient history academic looking for high quality site-specific photos for a lecture or presentation.
Fortunately, the media bank website called "Sites & Photos" is a collection of photographs and videos of archaeological ruins and architecture throughout the Mediterranean region. Over 80,000 high resolution images and over 20 hours of video clips have been collected for this project to date, and you can see the thumbnails and 10 second video previews without so much as logging in. One extremely useful innovation at "Sites & Photos" is a presentation feature, that allows academic institutional subscribers to quickly and easily build slide show presentations from the gallery of available photographs.
For the purposes of a website review, I recently spent several days poking around the site and carrying on extensive conversations with Olivier Amar at Sites & Photos, who was quite amenable to my nosy questions. Take a look at my review and do some exploring on your own.

It’s a shame though that one can’t download the low resolution stuff for blogs and such without subscription.
Irene hi, although we don’t give away images, if the images were to link back to us, we might be open to permitting usage for blogging purposes. Feel free to contact us through the website if there’s anything you’re interested in and we’ll see what we can do.
