Reindeer Domestication

Thursday March 29, 2007
The latest addition to the Animal Domestication page is reindeer, the last animal domesticated, or at least that's what we think.

After posting my "Table of Animal Domestications" I received a note from a reader disputing my date of 1000 BC as a date of domestication for reindeer, and citing another webpage as evidence that it occurred about 3000 BC. I don't think that's right--the things I've read suggest 1000 BC, but I wasn't able to contact the other website owner, and so I'm not positive of his sources.

So, if you out there know of another credible source that adds another 2,000 years to the date I have listed here, please drop me a line!
