In CulturalKiosque late last month appeared an interview with French archaeologist Jean-François Jarrige, president of the National Museum of Asian Art "Guimet", in which he describes how his recent exhibition "Afghanistan, Rediscovered Treasures" came to be. In this fascinating interview, Jarrige describes the differences between the way the American government treats cultural materials versus that of other governments and why that means the Afghan treasures will likely not make it to American museums any time soon.
