I am flat out blown away with this new technology called Photosynth. Under development by Microsoft Live Labs, Photosynth collects an enormous number of images of a place or an object (like gigabytes worth of images), analyzes them for similarities and then creates a three-dimensional view out of them that is zoomable and detailed and smooth and you can fly around it and look into each image using a fairly basic machine (mine did just fine), and holy cow I don't think there is any way I can full do justice to this thing, you just have to go look for yourself.
- Photosynth, the home page which has a downloadable beta on it
- Photosynth at TED, a presentation by developer Blaise Aguera y Arcas for TED last month
- Gyeongbok Palace, which is a 14th century palace in South Korea that has a Photosynth 3-d image created of it
