If you're going to be an archaeologist, chances are the very first job you'll ever have is as a field technician.

Also called "shovel bum", the field technician travels the globe, gaining experience and a little bit of money. Despite the Indiana Jones movies, there's not a lot of glamor involved, but it can be a great deal of fun--and, as Calvin says, the most mind-numbing job on the planet.

A lot of people get started during the summer sessions in college, but if you want to know what it's like to be a field tech, this is the series for you.
