the first emperor of China, who unified the Warring States of the last part of the previous Zhou Dynasty into one group. His tomb, discovered in the 1970s, contained an amazing array of life-sized soldiers, charioteers, and horses made of terracotta, and other sculptures of bronze.

The exquisite terracotta army of the first Qin Dynasty ruler Shihuangdi represents the emperor’s ability to control the resources of the newly unified China, and his attempt to recreate and maintain that empire in the afterlife.

The Walking Tour of Emperor Qin's Terracotta Soldiers takes a closer look at these marvels of ancient Chinese artistry.
