Pharaoh Hatshepsut was an Egyptian rarity: a New Kingdom female pharaoh who ruled between about 1473-1458 BC.
Hatshepsut has made the news recently because her mummy was recently fairly convincingly identified, a discovery that will be reported on the Discovery Channel next Sunday, July 15, 2007. Luckily for us, my colleagues in Women's History and Ancient History have been working on special articles, covering issues brought up by this discovery. And all this week, I'll be posting links to the different stories by my colleagues and myself on this woman and her life.
All sorts of good stuff is in the works, including a review of the program and an interview with archaeologist Kara Cooney. Today, let's take a closer look at Hatshepsut's lovely temple to Amun, Deir el Bahri.
