Babylon (Iraq) - Site of the Day

In the heart of the most war-torn city of our modern age is one of the oldest capitals of the Mesopotamian world: Babylon.

Founded at least as early as the end of the third millennium BC, Babylon was at its best under the reign of Hammurabi [1792-1750 BC] and then again under Nebuchadnezzar II.

The ancient cultural heritage of Babylon has suffered a devastating amount of damage resulting from the Iraq/US war; damage that has recently been closely monitored, but you'll just have to click on through to read about it...
