This week's photo gallery is of the Jewish Mosaics at Hamman-Lif, Tunisia.

Hamman-Lif was a small suburb of the great city of Carthage, settled by Roman citizens after the end of the Punic Wars, when Carthage was destroyed by the Romans. A large segment of the society of Hamman-Lif were of Jewish Roman citizens, and one great discovery in the latter decades of the 19th century was the floor of a synagogue dated to the period, a floor which included a number of wonderful mosaics.
During 2005-2006, the Brooklyn Museum held an exhibition of these mosaics, and they gave me a bunch of photos of them to share with you.
