Meadowcroft Rockshelter was, I daresay, one of the first archaeological sites to be taken seriously as predating Clovis. It is also part of the Clovis First/PreClovis controversy, which continues to this day, concerning whether the archaeological component called Clovis represents the earliest human occupation on the American continents or not. Many other sites have come along, like Monte Verde and Cactus Hill, but the one that really got people thinking about the possibility was Meadowcroft, which is why it is our Site of the Day.
