Site of the Day: Wadi Hammeh 27 (Jordan)

Monday October 15, 2007
The site of the day is a Natufian site, Wadi Hammeh 27, in Jordan. Archaeologists commonly use a number after a site name when there are a bunch of archaeological sites in very close proximity, in this case, near where the mouth of the dry wash called Wadi Hammeh joins the Jordan valley.

The Natufian is a pretty interesting time period in the Levant during human history; at between 12,000 and 10,000 years ago, it's when our hunter-gatherer ancestors were very skilled at making a living off the land, learning all about the different kinds of plants and animals we were later to domesticate.

To learn more about Wadi Hammeh 27, or about the Natufian, pick a link and follow on through.
