This is the time of year universities begin announcing their upcoming field seasons for the year, most of which (but by no means all) occur in the summer (or in the southern hemisphere, winter) sessions of June-August. Although not everyone has updated their websites yet, many are in the planning stages and some of the field schools have already been filled.

Here's a tip: If you see a field school that looks interesting but the date is from last year, click on through and ask the director for information for this year. Many excavations continue for several years, and the directors just don't have time to update their listings.
