Johan Reinhard is currently Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society and a Senior Research Fellow at The Mountain Institute, and has conducted work in Peru since the 1970s. His travel book Machu Picchu: Exploring an Ancient Sacred Center, now in its fourth edition, is perfect, to my mind, for those of us who yearn to get up and wander the Inca ruins with a book stuffed in our backpack as a source of inspiration and information.
It's one of the Cotsen Institute's World Heritage and Monuments books, and I highly recommended it. So, read the review and see if you won't be putting this book (not to mention Machu Picchu) on your wish list this year.
