About three years ago now, I had the great good fortune to meet, electronically that is, a 22-year-old systems operator from Australia named Sureyya Kose. Sureyya had been finding herself dreaming during the day of potsherds and dusty tombs and excavation pits when she should have been staring into computer screens. In short, she wanted to change her career to archaeology.
Sureyya has a fresh and funny literary style, and I talked her into describing her process in an ongoing series of articles called "Sureyya's Journey". Her way towards archaeology has been hindered by many of the things that life chucks at all of us, which she has courageously shared with you and me. I just heard from her, and she tells me she began her first year of university this year, which she reports on in her article Being a Freshman. Congratulations, Sureyya! Hope things go well for you---and keep in touch!

So glad to see another installment from Sureyya! Sounds as if things are getting under way well for her.
“…dreaming during the day of potsherds and dusty tombs and excavation pits when she should have been staring into computer screens.”
Uh Oh, hasn’t anybody warned her that she still might end up staring into a computer screen?
Shhh! Sheldon, don’t scare her away, yet anyway. And besides, think of it this way–she’ll be the one kid you don’t have to send to classes to learn to use MS Access.

I had to laugh….! As a very ‘mature’ student, I’m finding that trying to balance work life and University life quite challenging! No matter where we are, (I’m in Canada)amount to the same thing!!
Thank you for posting this Kris!!
Good luck Sureyya…I’ll be watching for new posts!
