Something that's been kicking around unfinished on my computer for awhile is a photo essay of the Inca Road System. This week I finally shoved it into completion.
My compatriot at About.com, Bonnie Hamre at South America for Visitors, has made a terrific photo essay for the South American traveler that takes a person along the segment that leads to Machu Picchu, but what I wanted was to point out the pieces of construction for the length of the Inca Road, all 40,000 kilometers of it, and the bits of history that I, geek that I am, find interesting. I think there's more to be said, yet, but here's a good start.

Love the Inca trail
Hard to believe messengers could cover this terrain so easily and hard to imagine their physical condition
