Follow me on:

This ceramic mask was created by the people of Teotihuacan, one of the largest cities in the world at AD 500, with an estimated population of 125,000 people. The rulers of Teotihuacan remain nameless to this day, leaving behind anonymous masks and statues.

I was surprised. That’s a CERAMIC mask. It seems amazing to me that it’s in such good shape.

Interesting how it is so flat on the top. Almost as if it were meant to be a vase or pot. Or maybe they stood on their heads alot [;)

Pottery, once fired, lasts forever. It can be broken, but never fully obliterated (unless pulverized). It’s amazing what has survived the ages….

What a lovely mask. I love Pre-Columbian art!

Did people actually wear this mask? Could they see out of it?
