When and where was the sweet potato domesticated?
In South or Central America, probably around 2500 BC.
But that's not all of the story: how the sweet potato moved around the planet has been the focus of both historical and archaeological research. It has long been established that Spanish, Portuguese and British explorer/captains like Captain Cook were involved in the transmission of the sweet potato--but archaeological science reports that there also had to have been some prehistoric cross-pacific navigation, if only the plants themselves.
