Pietro Psaier is supposed to have been a close personal friend of Andy Warhol's, but he was killed in the 2004 Indonesian tsunami. Or... was he?

True, undeniably true–an art history mystery is not archaeology. But–isn’t it interesting, how people can find themselves unable to parse out the reality of a chimera, based on “indirect traces in bad samples”? That kind of thing happens in archaeology pretty much constantly.
