The Mayan civilization refers to the group of loosely organized city states that dominated central America from about 200-900 AD. Interestingly enough, archaeologists prefer the term "Maya Civilization"; but most people in the general public think about it and refer to it as the "Mayan Civilization". Archaeologists figure "Mayan" refers to the language, not the people.
Like the other Guides to Cultures that I've developed (and listed in the Human History), the Guide to the Mayan Civilization includes an overview, a timeline, links to in-depth glossary entries about sites like Tikal and Palenque and Chichén Itzá, information on agriculture and writing systems and religion and lists of dynastic rulers, and (naturally) a big fat bibliography.
Enjoy!

Then, I think you need a book. Here’s a list of recent books, but you should also just go to your local library.
