The Why Files, written by science writer David Tenenbaum with Terry Devitt and published this month by Penguin Press,
is a collection of articles from The Why Files website, a project begun in 1996 by the University of Wisconsin at Madison and supported by the National Science Foundation.
But, read my full review and see why the availability of the material on the internet shouldn't stop you from buying this entertaining, attractively laid-out and inexpensive look into the fun bits of science knowledge.
Added 5/7: I just heard from David Tenenbaum of The Why Files, and he tells me that about 80% of the book is brand new, and not on their website. Bravo!

Looks like a very fun book, good Xmas present for inquisitive kids — think there’s one nephew on my side who might like it.
