Quite fascinating !!! A Stone Age art gallery !
They must’ve covered every square inch of Lascaux Cave with paintings. What medium did they use ?

I hope that this ancient wonder is being protected & conserved as it deserves to be.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention. I’ve been totally fascinated with paleolithic cave painting since I was very small and remain so, but have never been to any of the prehistoric cave galleries in Europe, at least not yet. And I’ve been a cave guide/interpreter at a similar sized limestone cave here in the US, but this virtual tour is really quite the best. Never before, for all the images and reproductions I’ve seen of them, had I sensed what was going on in the perceptions of artists before. For instance when approaching the reindeer bull at the entrance to the gallery with the felines, the way the beams of the caribou’s antlers not only conform accurately with the animals remarkabley graceful antlers as they do in reality, but are painted on a natual curve that is the result of the cave’s scalloped roof…it looms ahead and above adding a dimensionality I couldn’t quite appreciate before, and I can understand “why” an impressive bull reindeer with it’s antlers right there. Any…pardon my enthusiasm but it really is worth spending time there…and I’m heading back down..er, back over. Cheers.
