The Neolithic period in World History (in my opinion) is one of our strangest. Why on earth would anybody give up the hunter-gatherer existence they had led for some 2 million years to labor in the fields?

I don't know. But at least three separate times, in three separate places, we did just that. About.com's new Guide to the Neolithic merely scratches the surface of this fascinating period. Look for more resources in the future.
