Archaeology has been defined in a lot of ways over the century and a half of the science's existence.
For me, the variety of opinions is fascinating. Maybe you feel like Lynn Meskell when she dreams of a "relevant, positive force," or like Margaret Murray, threatened by a nightmare of a "welter of flint chips." Maybe you think "archaeology is anthropology or it's nothing" ... maybe not.
My favorite, you ask? Well I'm torn. Either Kent Flannery's "the most fun you can have with your pants on" or Bill Watterson's "mind-numbing"....
What's your favorite and is it in our collection?
