Tatiana Proskouriakoff

Tatiana Proskouriakoff was a Russian-born American epigrapher and archaeologist, who is justly famous for her detailed architectural drawings and research into Maya hieroglyphs.

Proskouriakoff was the first to recognize that ancient Maya stele carvings were not simply astronomical or calendrical data, but rather describe the history, battles and accessions of the Maya ruling elite.
