Studied for over a century, Moundville is recognized as one of the largest and most elaborate of the Mississippian sites scattered over the American middlewest and southeast between the 11th and 16th centuries AD.
Moundville is open to the public, and strolling through the grounds and visiting the museum is a terrific way to get a first-hand introduction to the Mississippian culture.
