Over the past couple of decades, the ancient ritual of feasting has become an intense focus of interest for archaeologists: and certainly this week, feasting is of more than normal interest to many modern people today.

Feasting is when two or more people sit down to share the consumption of an elaborate, special meal, for any one of a number of reasons: to pay debts, gain allies, honor ones ancestors, celebrate rites of passage like weddings, and communicate with gods. The oldest feast we know about took place nearly 12,000 years ago!
