Broxmouth Hillfort

Broxmouth is the name of the archaeological remnants of an Iron Age hillfort, located about 2,000 feet from the North Sea near Dunbar, Scotland.

Hillforts are what archaeologists call settlements placed on the tops of hills and fortified with ditches, palisades, walls, and/or ramparts. They, or at least fortified settlements, are found throughout the world--we are a nervous race--but in general the term refers to hillforts built during the European Iron Age, ca ~800-51 BC. One interesting thing about this hillfort is the evidence for deep sea fishing...
