One of the original Seven Wonders of the World was the legendary Pharos Lighthouse, built on the island of Pharos in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, in the 3rd century BC. The Pharos Lighthouse, aka the Lighthouse of Alexandria, collapsed after an earthquake in the 14th century AD, so all we have today are historical descriptions: and one replica, also built in the 3rd century BC, the Abusir Tower.

In the middle of a massive Greco-Roman cemetery of the Ptolemaic town of Taposiris Magna (and not far from Alexandria itself) stands a 17-meter (55-foot) tall replica of the Pharos lighthouse. Extensively restored in the 20th century, the Tower of Abusir is a fascinating relic of Alexander the Great's dynasties in Egypt.
